internet interruption
So I had a slight internet interruption yesterday. The good thing is it gave me time to scan in some work i've been wanting to. I figured since I missed a day of posting I would give you three images today.
These images are from the very first body of work I ever put together. They got me my first group show and into my first gallery. This series, Chapter, Verse, was the precursor to my nightswimming series. My bodies of work usually evolve from the one I worked on previously or from another I am working on at the same time. When I made this work, it was a dark time in my life, but it brought me to the place I am now so I am appreciative of my journey.

I went to the Pacific Design Center Tuesday night for some openings as part of MOPLA, the Month of Photography in Los Angeles, which is happening the entire month of April. There was some nice work. The standout for me was definitely John Delaney's Golden Eagle Hunters of Mongolia. Absolutely beautiful images and prints. Also worth seeing is Ghost Notes: A Photographic Mixtake by B+. The shows are up until April 30. Tough hours, Mon-Thurs 12-4p, but John Delaney's work is definitely worth it.
Visiting the PDC, made me think of a body of work I did a few years ago that I honestly hadn't thought about in a while.

for kelly, john, and quinn...
In 2005, I went to Portland, Oregon for five days. It was my first trip there, and five truly enjoyable days. What rain? It rained like an hour tops maybe. Anyway, I loved it there. The clean air. The "green" city. The vibe. The food. Portland is a a great food town. And I mean great! Local and fresh is the mantra. Park Kitchen is absolutely one of my favorite places in the world to eat. The lemon soufflé with fresh blueberries... damn, it's good!
My good friend, Kelly, her very soon-to-be husband, John, and their absolutely adorable 16-month-old son, Quinn, just moved to Portland last week. I was sad to see them leave, but I know they are going to be in love with the city, as they already seem to be, why else would they have moved there, right?
I've known quite a few people who have or are in the process of moving to this wonderful city in the last few years. I'm still thinking of going myself. To Kelly, John, Quinn, Kate, Aaron, and Rashmi... I offer up this image. I hope to visit soon, and one never knows what the future might hold. Neighbors? May you find tremendous happiness in your new home. And may the life of your dreams be...

black + white week continues
I must say looking back through the archive, I am finding all kinds of images I have completely forgotten. As I said Monday, I don't shoot much black + white these days, however I am feeling a draw towards it from seeing this older work. A project seems evident now.

black + white week
This week I have decided to show black + white work from the archive. Like many, I started out using black + white film only in order to teach myself to truly see light before the cries of color called out to me. I don't shoot that much black + white anymore, but I am toying with the idea of taking up a project this year. We'll see what happens. For now, enjoy these images from the archive.
